Stopping the machine
If the temperature is below 0°C a series of measures must be taken to prevent icing of the
machine or any of its parts (mast, stabilizers, hoses, tracks) from being jammed:
-
Avoid leaving the machine wet or with standing water in any of its parts.
-
Cover the control panel with canvasses.
-
Avoid direct contact of the mast, hose bundles, pipes, stabilizers with the ground; raise
the tracks slightly off the ground.
Before leaving his position and before allowing service personnel to access the machine, the
operator must shut down the machine.
Before stopping the engine, the operator must ensure that the machine is and remains in a
stable position. To avoid risks due to hanging loads or wind, set the tip of the mast on the
ground and place the moving parts of the equipment at the lowest possible position.
To shut down the motor, the operator must comply with the following procedure:
a)
set the engine speed to idling;
b)
turn the ignition key counterclockwise;
c)
check that the indicator lights and the control terminal switch off.
Before disconnecting the battery, wait 60 seconds after shutting down the diesel engine.
When leaving the machine unattended occasionally or at the end of a shift, the operator must
always remove and retain possession of the ignition key, however brief the absence; when
work is finished, the key must be handed over to the site manager or foreman, or left in a
designated location.
If the machine has to be left in a very humid or corrosive environment for a prolonged period of
time (for instance, by the sea or near a chemical plant …), precautions will have to be taken to
avoid the oxidation of components:
•
Apply purpose-provided protective coatings to the machine;
•
Provide for suitable dehydrating agents in the electrical control panels to protect all
electrical/electronic devices.
For diesel engines, please refer to the dedicated handbook.
When the machine will not be used for a long period of time, ensure compliance with the
following warnings, so as to guarantee conservation of the machine and safety of the worksite:
a)
place the machine on flat, resistant terrain. Place the mast and applied equipment in a
safe position (tracks aligned with upperstructure, parallelogram type support retracted to
minimum work radius, tools and rods placed in lowest possible position, etc.) (

– Stability");
b)
do not leave the machine in a place where it could obstruct the transit of other vehicles;
c)
remove the ignition key and lock the cabin door;
d)
leave the machine clean, tidy and lubricated, and take care that the various parts are well
conserved;
e)
place a notice on the control panel not to start the machine unless so ordered by
responsible personnel.
