4.5.3. Emergency starting

If the battery is low, an emergency starting can be performed.

WARNING!

During an emergency starting with jumper leads or an external starter, the low batteries
must remain connected to the machine's electrical system. If not, the emergency
starting could damage the electronic components of the machine.

4.5.3.1.

Starting with jumper leads

A = Machine with low batteries.

B = Auxiliary machine with charged batteries.
1)

Turn the ignition key towards the left, to stop the power supply of the electrical system.

2)

Turn off all the machine's electrical devices (spotlights, fans, radio, ..)

3)

Clean the battery clamps on both machines carefully.

4)

Make sure the charged batteries and the low batteries have the same nominal voltage
(12 + 12 V).

5)

Check that the batteries of the auxiliary machine have a charge and discharge capacity
equal to or more than that of the low batteries (TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

–

Electrical and electronic system).

6)

Check that the two machines do not come into contact with one another

7)

Before connecting the two batteries with the jumper leads, start the diesel engine of the
auxiliary machine.

8)

Connect the red jumper lead to the positive clamp (+) of
the low battery (1).

9)

Connect the red jumper lead to the positive clamp (+) of
the charged battery (2).

10) Connect the jumper lead to the negative clamp (-) of the

charged battery (3).

11) Connect the jumper lead to the negative clamp (-) of the

low battery (4).

12) Avoid the jumper lead clamps coming into contact with

other parts of the machines.

13) Slightly increase the revs of the diesel engine of the

machine with the charged batteries

14) Wait at least 3 minutes before starting the machine with

the low batteries.

15) As soon as the machine's engine has started, disconnect

the jumper leads in the reverse order to that used to
connect them.
