Assistant
Assistants may enter the hazardous area only to carry out machine set-up. The work of the
assistants must be coordinated and controlled by the operator. The operator must make only
those movements with the machine that are absolutely necessary to perform the operations.
Maintenance technician
The maintenance technician may access the hazardous area only to peform maintenance
tasks that require the machine to be left running. The work of the maintenance technician must
be coordinated and controlled by the operator. The operator who is at the controls of the
machine and the maintenance technician must be able to see one another so that
communication between them is easy an unequivocal. When the operator and the
maintenance technician cannot see one another, a third person must coordinate their actions.
The operator must make only those movements with the machine that are absolutely
necessary to perform the operations
Underground lines
Before starting the machine, it is necessary to check for the presence of underground lines in
the work area by asking the owner or the operator of the pipes for the required information:
electrical or telephone lines: underground electrical lines may be damaged or cut by the
working tool or other equipment, exposing personnel to the risk of electrocution.
gas lines: breakage of pipes may cause a fire if the gas is flammable.
ducts that carry fluids: breakage of pipes may cause damage due to flooding of the
excavation, flooding of the work area or it may cause a fire if the fluid is flammable.
The path and depth of underground lines and compartments must clearly be marked on the
surface of the terrain.
