Removing and Replacing System Memory
System memory modules, or DIMMs, are located on the system board.
WARNING!
Ensure that the system is powered off and all power sources are disconnected
from the server prior to performing this procedure.
Voltages are present at various locations in the server whenever an ac power source is connected.
This voltage is present even when the main power switch is in the off position.
Failure to observe this warning can result in personal injury or damage to equipment.
CAUTION:
Observe all ESD safety precautions before attempting this procedure. Failure to
follow ESD safety precautions can result in damage to the server.
Removing System Memory
To remove system memory, follow these steps:
1.
Power off the server and disconnect the power cables. See
“Powering On and Powering Off
the Server” (page 78)
.
2.
If rack mounted, slide the server out from the rack until it stops. See
“Extending the Server
from the Rack” (page 143)
.
3.
Remove the top cover from the server. See
“Removing the Top Cover” (page 144)
.
4.
Remove the airflow guide. See
“Removing the Airflow Guide” (page 146)
.
5.
Release the DIMM from the slot.
a.
Identify on the system board which DIMM you want to remove. See
Figure 6-27
for the
slot IDs.
b.
Push the appropriate extraction levers (found on either side of the DIMM slot) outward
to the open position.
