9.1 OPERATING A
QUAD LOCK
CARABINER:
Standard Carabiners (fig-
ure 16) and Quad Lock
Carabiners (figure 15) are
similar in appearance,
however the quad lock
carabiner requires 4 (four)
deliberate actions in order
to open the carabiner (fig-
ure 15):
While holding the Quad
Lock Carabiner in one
hand:
1) twist the barrel of the gate inwards
2) push barrel of gate upwards towards
the nose of the carabiner
3) twist the barrel of the gate inwards
4) push gate open into the body of
carabiner
9.2 CONNECTING A TY-BACK
LANYARD TO AN ANCHORAGE
Wrap the
lanyard around
an appropriate
anchor, then
open the gate
of the quad
lock carabiner
as describe
above. Pass
the lanyard
through the
carabiner and
allow the gate
to lock. (see
Figure 17)
9.3 TRAUMA STRAP
A Trauma Strap is used with the North full
body harness to prolong the allowable
suspension time after a person has
experienced a fall. The trauma strap
should only be used by a competent
person who has been trained and is
aware of the risks associated with the
use of the trauma strap.
This product is not a replacement for a
rescue plan. The employer is responsible
for the implementation of an effective
rescue plan. A trauma strap can be
included in the plan but it should not be
the sole item in the plan.

WARNING
Only a Quad Lock Carabiner can be
used to tie back directly to the
lanyard
NOTE
It may be possible to wrap the lanyard
around the anchor more than once,
however ensure that the only a single
layer of the lanyard is tied back
through the Quad Lock Carabiner.
WARNING
Do not close the gate of the Quad
Lock Carabiner onto the lanyard
itself. It must be closed around the
tie strap below the adjustment
buckle. (figure 17)
Ensure that the Quad Lock Carabiner
is completely closed without any
obstruction in the gate. This could
cause disengagement, which in turn
could cause serious injury or death.
