BUILDING INSTRUCTIONS - HARPOON
It is essential to read right through the safety notes and building
instructions. Study them with the greatest care, and do not
proceed unless you understand them completely!
Important: the construction of this model requires a high level of technical knowledge, manual skill and
piloting experience. Operating a model with a jet engine calls for a highly circumspect approach and
specialised technical expertise.
Please read and observe the safety notes in the operating instructions.
The turbine operating instructions are comprehensive and must be observed.

If your turbine’s rated thrust is more than 8 kg, its rotational speed must be limited to the point where the
engine’s thrust is no higher than 90% of the model’s all-up weight.
The HARPOON is a jet-powered model aircraft which is now available from Graupner Modellbau. It is an all-
moulded GRP model, supplied pigmented in three colours, and it represents a development of the KANGAROO
of which many hundreds have been produced and flown successfully. The structural design of the HARPOON
incorporates many improvements: the airframe’s static strength is higher, and the vertical fins are now moulded
using sandwich techniques like the wings for even greater torsional rigidity. All undercarriage openings, pushrod
fairings and horn slots etc. are machine-cut at the factory, the retract unit supports and other factory-fitted
plywood reinforcements consist of high-quality European plywood, and are bonded to the airframe using
aviation-grade resin. As with its predecessor, the KANGAROO, the model naturally includes Servo-Lock servo
mounts and all control surfaces feature integral hinges.
As a further technical development and highlight of the model a thrust
vectoring control system is included, together with an internal turbine.
Access to the engine is via a hatch on the underside of the fuselage.
The thrust vectoring system makes the model even more agile, and reduces the take-off run by at least one third.
The internal turbine installation minimises the sound emission of the engine.
All the airframe components have been subjected to protracted failure and load tests, and each
individually manufactured GRP moulding is produced by specialist laminating experts who have a high
level of expertise and manufacturing experience. The GRP parts may exhibit minor pin-holes and other
small cosmetic blemishes in the outer skin, especially along the moulding seams, but these have no adverse
effect on airframe strength.
The model is very highly pre-fabricated, but some work still remains to be carried out which the builder
has to complete using his own favourite methods. Please note that these processes call for fairly advanced
technical expertise and manual skill, and we also assume that you have a normal range of workshop
equipment.
