4B2-2 REAR AXLE CONTROLS

Important

• Do not disturb the switch spring (7).

Clean (Figure 1)

• All metal parts in solvent and air dry.
• RTV sealer from the cover (1), housings (6 and

15), and motor (9).

• Use carburetor cleaner sparingly to clean all seal

ing surfaces on the housings (6 and 15), and motor

(9). Solvents that contain mineral spirits should not

be used.

ASSEMBLY

Install or Connect (Figures 1, 2, 3, and 4)

NOTICE: For steps 3, 7, 9, 12, and 14, see

•'NOTICE

on page 4B2-1.

Important

! • Lubricate parts only where noted with Rheolube

362 (or equivalent). Use of other types of lubri
cant may cause operational problems at low

temperature conditions.

• Use an RTV sealant (GM P/N 1052366 or

equivalent) on all sealing surfaces where noted.

1. Cam pins (8). Apply a light coat of lubricant to each

pin before assembly.

• Lubricate the washer, gear teeth, and shaft.

2. Washer (12), gear, and shaft (11).
3. Nut (13). •

Tighten

• Nut to 8.5 N m (75 in. lbs.). Hold the gear end

of the shaft with pliers while tightening the nut.

Inspect

• Rotate the gear to be sure no binding is pre

sent. Ripht hand rotation is prevented by com

ponent design.

4. Slider block (14) in housing (6).

A: Lightly lubricate the full length Of the shaft (17).

B. Fill the gear pin slot in the slider block with

lubricant.

G: Fill the cavity next to the gear with lubricant.

The cavity is adjacent to the motor shaft hole.
