Important
• Do not drive or pound on the clutch bore of the
shaft. Internal damage to the compressor may
result.
2. Clutch plate and hub assembly (figure 5).
A. Install the clutch plate and hub assembly over
the compressor shaft, lining up the Key slot on
the hub with the key way slot in the shaft.
B. Place J 37826 over the shaft and tap the
assembly until it has bottomed against the
clutch shims.

3. Shaft nut (1).

Tighten
•Shaft nut (1) to 39 N-m (28 ft. lbs.). •
Inspect (Figure 6)
• Check the air gap with a feeler gage to 0.4064
to 0.7874 mm (0.016 to 0.031 inch). The air gap
is determined by the spacer shims. When rein-

stalling or installing .a, new clutch assembly, try
the original shims first. When installing
a
new
clutch onto a compressor that does not have a
clutch, use 1.016 mm, 0.508 mm, or 0.127 mm
(0.040, 0.020, or 0.005 inch) shims from the
clutch accessory sack.
