SECTION 5A
MASTER CYLINDER
NOTICE: When fasteners are removed, always re in stall them at the same location from which they were
removed. If a fastener needs to be replaced, use the correct p art num ber fastener fo r that application. If
the correct p art num ber fastener is n ot available, a fastener o f equal size and strength (o r stronger) may
be used. Fasteners that are n ot reused and those requiring thread locking com pound w ill be called out.
The correct torque value m u st be used when in stallin g fasteners that require it. If the above conditions
are n ot followed, p arts o r system damage could result.
NOTICE: Do n o t hone the m aster cylin d er bore. When the brake m aster cylin d er is overhauled, it is
recom m ended that the cylin d er b ody be replaced rather than “ cleaned u p ” b y honing, the bore. The
m aster cylin d e r has a hard, h ig h ly polished, “ bearingized” surface, that is produced b y diam ond boring
follow ed b y b a ll o r ro lle r burnishing under heavy pressure. Honing w ill destroy this surface and cause
rapid wear o f the rubber cups.
NOTICE: Do n o t use kerosene, gasoline, o r any o ther unapproved solvents fo r cleaning o r flushing the
m aster cylin d er and com ponents. The use o f these o r any solvents w ith a trace o f m ineral o il w ill damage
