• Place the sector shaft firmly in a soft jawed vise
and unstake the retainer using a suitable chisel.
• Turn the retainer out of the sector shaft pocket
and remove the adjusting screw. :
11. Relief valve cap (54), O-ring (55), and two piece >
relief valve (56), if equipped. V:
12. Seal (2). • ■

• Clean any paint or corrosion from the exposed
area of the input shaft with a fine grade of
emery cloth; ; |
13. Bolts (1). :
14. Valve housing (5), input shaft (14), and rack piston
(19) as an assembly from the housing.
• Place the assembly on a clean cloth to catch
the balls during rack piston disassembly. : ||
• Do not remove the poppet adjuster seat and
sleeve assemblies unless replacement is
' required.,
• Be careful not to disturb the position of the pop­
pet adjuster seat unless they are to be removed
for replacement.
15. Seal rings (6 and 7).
16. Screws (31), cap (30), and seal (29).
Notice: Do not remove the input shaft, valve,
worm assembly or balls from the rack piston
until the ball return guides are removed or
damage to the ball guides will occur.
17. Ball return guide halves (28).
• Insert a small screwdriver between the rack pis­
ton and guides.
18. 32 steel balls (27). ;
• Rotate the the input shaft until the balls fall out.
* ‘ The steel balls are a matched set. If any are
lost, the Complete set must be replaced.
19. Rack piston (19) from the input shaft.
20. Teflon seal ring (20) and O-ririg (19).
21. Poppet assemblies (if necessary), (figure 4).
. A. Place the rack piston in a soft jawed vise. ; | ,
B. Use J 36452-A to remove the larger diameter
threaded; adjuster sleeve (figure 4).
C. Slide J 36452-A Over the- seat Of the poppet
adjuster seat and sleeve assemblies (22^ (figure
5) in rack piston (19).
D. Engage tool in the slots in the threaded sleeve.
E. Hit end of tool firmly three or four times with a
16 oz. hammer to loosen Loctite applied at
assembly (figure 5).
F. With breaker bar applied to tool, turn adjuster
seat and assemblies out of rack piston.
