Typical Telnet/SSH Cut-Thru Procedure
This procedure allows a direct cut-thru connection to an attached device. In such typical
applications, the SC-ADT port has already been configured to match the async RS232 format of the
attached device for every call.
Note
For SC-ADT applications that employ a customer-supplied authentication server/modem bank in front of the
target device, a special character command is required in the connection string on a call-by-call basis.
Refer to
Telnet/SSH Cut-Thru Procedure via Dial-out Modems
later in this section.
1. Start a Telnet or SSH session to a specific port by defining either of the following connection
parameters as required:
telnet
[SC-ADT IP address]
20
[2-digit port number]
ssh
[SC-ADT IP address]
30
[2-digit port number]
Example: Cut-Thru connection to Port 5
telnet 172.16.45.204 2005
or
ssh 172.16.45.204 3005
2. If port authentication is in effect, enter a valid username/password at the prompts to login to
the SC-ADT. If necessary, override any other Telnet CLI session in progress as instructed by
the screen prompt.
Note
If port authentication is not in effect (disabled by the administrator), no entry is required; however, your SSH
client may still prompt you for a username/password. In this situation, any entry will allow access the port.
3.
A successful Telnet/SSH cut-thru connection to the port will display a confirmation similar to the
examples below.
Telnet Example:
username: cdflash
password: ********
Connecting to port5: : IP(172.016.010.189:2005)
connected
SSH Example:
username: cdflash
password: ********
Connecting to port5: : IP(172.016.010.189:3005)
connected
Note
Note that the displayed IP string shows the current management circuit, with the remote userÌs IP address on
one end and the port being accessed on the other end.
4. To access another port or to access the SC-ADT CLI, close the Telnet/SSH client and start a
new Telnet session.
Note
If the Telnet client is disconnected, it will retain the most recent cut-thru IP address and port information until
the Telnet session is closed.
