GENERAL MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES
Pitot/Static Leak Test
Before starting the pitot static test, allow the GDC 74B to operate at least 15 minutes according
to Garmin Service Advisory 0608. Perform a pitot/static leak test as described in Title 14 CFR
§§ 91.411 and Part 43 Appendix E.
Altimeter (GDC 74B & PFD)
Per Part 43 Appendix E, paragraph (b)(2), Garmin specifies a test procedure equivalent to Part
43 Appendix E, paragraph (b)(1) with two exceptions. The tests of sub-paragraphs (iv)
(Friction) and (vi) Barometric Scale Error) are not applicable because the digital outputs of the
GDC 74(X) are not susceptible to these types of errors. Refer to section 9.9.
Airspeed Function Test (GDC 74B & PFD)
Check for correct indication.
Vertical Speed Indicator (GDC 74B & PFD)
Check for correct indication.
GTX 33 Mode S Transponder
Test according to Title 14 CFR §§ 91.411 and 91.413 as well as Part 43 Appendix F.
GRS 77 Earth Magnetic Field Updates
The GRS 77 utilizes an earth magnetic field model, which is updated once every five years. The
update is expected to be available from Garmin by July 1 of each of the following years: 2005,
2010, 2015, and every five years thereafter, as long as the GRS 77 remains a Garmin-supported
product. Otherwise maintenance of the GRS 77 is on condition of failure only.
GDL 90
Refer to the GDL 90 Installation Manual for periodic maintenance information (P/N 560-1049-
02).
GSA 8(X) Servos
Conduct a visual inspection every 1000 hours or every annual. Clean and apply grease to output
gear every 1000 hours or 3 years.
GSM 85(A) Servo Gearbox
Conduct a visual inspection and check slip clutches once every 12 months.
