NOTE
If the ‘PFT’ annunciation turns red, the test has failed and additional
troubleshooting will have to be performed prior to continuing the test.

If the aural alert is not heard, but pre-flight testing passed, engage the autopilot by
pressing the AP key and disengage the autopilot by pressing the AP key again.
Visual and aural disconnect alerting should clear. If no alert is heard, check the
GIA 1/GMA 1 and GIA 2/GMA 2 audio interface.
AFCS Switch Checks
To verify the AFCS systems buttons and switches are operating correctly, perform the following
checks:
1.
Actuate both halves of the Manual Electric Trim (MET) switch on the same direction. The
trim clutch should engage and the trim wheel should run on the selected direction. Check
operation in both directions.
2.
Press the AP DISC button and hold while actuating the MET switch. The trim wheel should
stop running.
3.
Release the AP DISC button. The trim wheel should resume running.
4.
Release the MET switch.
5.
Engage the autopilot by pressing the AP key on the GMC 710.
6.
Press and hold the left half of the MET switch. The autopilot should command a normal
disengagement and the trim wheel should stop moving and rotate freely when moved
manually. A single disconnect tone will be heard and a flashing amber “AP” and “YD” will
be visible on the PFD.
7.
Engage the autopilot again by pressing the AP key on the MFD. The pitch and roll clutches
should engage, resisting movement of the control wheel.
8.
Press and hold the CWS switch. “CWS” will be annunciated in white on the PFD and the
control wheel should now move freely when moved manually.
9.
Release the CWS switch. The “CWS” annunciation will be replaced by a green “AP.” The
autopilot should hold the control wheel in its present attitude.
10.
Press the AP DISC switch. The autopilot should command a normal disengagement. A
single disconnect tone will be heard and a flashing amber “AP” will be visible on the PFD.
11.
Verify the control yoke is free in pitch and roll axes.
12.
Engage the autopilot again be pressing the AP key on the GMC 710.
13.
Pull the AP SERVOS circuit breaker. The autopilot should command an abnormal
disconnect, consisting of a continuous disconnect tone and a flashing red “AP” and amber
“YD” annunciation.
14.
Press the AP DISC button to silence the autopilot abnormal disconnect tone.
15.
Reset the AP SERVOS breaker.
16.
Wait for the pre-flight test sequence to successfully complete again.
17.
Press the TO/GA button. “TO” should be annunciated on the PFD for both pitch and roll
modes and the commend bars should indicate a wings-level climb to 10 degrees.
