Introduction

Warning

To avoid electric shock, do not make connections to the output

terminals when any voltage is present. The 5820A Calibrator is

capable of supplying lethal voltages. Placing the instrument in

standby may not be enough to avoid shock hazard, since the

operate key could be pressed accidentally. Press the reset key

and verify that the 5820A Calibrator is in standby before making

connections to the output terminals.

This chapter presents instructions for operating the 5820A Calibrator from the front

panel. For a description of front panel controls, displays, and terminals, see Chapter 3 for

more information.

Turning on the Calibrator

Warning

To avoid electric shock, make sure the 5820A Calibrator is

safely grounded as described in Chapter 2.

Caution

To avoid damage to the Calibrator, before turning the 5820A

Calibrator on, make sure that the line voltage selection is set

properly. Refer to Chapter 2 to check the line voltage setting.

When you power up the 5820A Calibrator, the initial display is “Starting Up...” (see

below) and it completes a self-test routine. If a self-test fails, the Control Display

identifies an error code. For a description of error codes, see Chapter 7 for more

information.
