The 

ENTER

 (Enter Value) key loads a newly entered output value shown on the Control Display 

into the 5820A, which appears on the Output Display. The new value can come from the numeric 
keypad. If you press ENTER without identifying the units for the entry, in most cases the 5820A 
keeps the units that were last used. This allows you, for example, to enter 1 mV, and then later 
enter 10 to obtain 10 V. (The "V" units were saved from the last entry, but not the multiplier, "m".) 
In the Error (edit) mode, ENTER with no value restores the output to the value of the reference.

  Numeric Keypad 

Used to enter the digits of the output amplitude and frequency. The proper sequence to enter a 
value is to press the digits of the output value, a multiplier key (if necessary), an output units key, 
then ENTER. Press 

l

 to enable the output. Pressing a digit key once the entry field is full, 

and pressing the decimal point key more than once in a single number sounds the beeper.

The 

+/-

 (Polarity) key changes the polarity of the output for voltage mode. Press the 

+/-

 key then 

ENTER to toggle the output polarity.

1-Channel (Standard Configuration) 

The

 1-Channel

 configuration

 

supports automated calibration of oscilloscopes. The

 EXT TRIG

 

(External Trigger) connector supports calibrating any oscilloscope requiring external triggering 
simultaneously with the output channel. The other three connectors are not connected.

 

5-Channel Option 

The

 5-Channel

 option supports automated calibration of multi-channel oscilloscopes without 

requiring connection changes. The two 

EXT TRIG 

(External Trigger) channel connectors support 

calibrating any oscilloscope requiring external triggering simultaneously with the output channels. 
In this option, you must select either Channel 1 or 5 to be the external trigger.
