Installingmemorymodules
Prerequisites
WARNING:
The memory modules are hot to touch for some time after the system has been powered down. Allow the memory
modulestocoolbeforehandlingthem.Handlethememorymodulesbythecardedgesandavoidtouchingthecomponentsor
metallic contacts on the memorymodule.
CAUTION:
Manyrepairsmayonlybedonebyacertifiedservicetechnician.Youshouldonlyperformtroubleshootingandsimple
repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team.

thatareshippedwithyourproduct.
CAUTION:
To ensure proper system cooling, memory module blanks must be installed in any memory socket that is not
occupied. Removememorymoduleblanksonlyifyouintendtoinstallmemorymodulesinthosesockets.

If installed, remove the memory module or the memory-module blank.

Remove the coolingshroud.
Steps
1
Locate the appropriate memory module socket.
CAUTION:
Handleeach memory moduleonly bythe card edges, ensuring nottotouch themiddleofthe memory moduleor
metallic contacts.

Open the ejectors on the memory module socket outward to allow the memory module to be inserted into the socket.

Align the edge connector of the memory module with the alignment key of the memory module socket, and insert the memory module
in the socket.
CAUTION:
Do not apply pressureat the center of the memory module; apply pressureat both ends ofthe memory module
evenly.
NOTE:
Thememory modulesocket has analignment key thatenablesyoutoinstallthe memory moduleinthesocketinonly
one orientation.

Press the memory module
with your thumbs until
the socket levers firmly click
into place.
When the memory module is properly seated in the socket, the levers on the memory module socket align withthe levers on the other
sockets that have memory modules installed.
