Problems on the Road

Rocking Your Vehicle

CAUTION

Before rocking the vehicle,

check that there are no physical

objects or people around the

vehicle.
The vehicle could move

suddenly. You or others may be

injured and objects could be

damaged.

To free your vehicle when it is

stuck:

1. Turn the steering wheel left

and right to clear the area

around the front wheels.

2. Shift the transmission back

and forth between

(Reverse)

and a forward gear (first or

second gear for vehicles with

manual transmissions), spin-

ning the wheels as little as

possible.
Release the accelerator pedal

while you shift and press it

lightly when in gear.

CAUTION

Keep your foot off the accelera-

tor pedal while shifting. Wait

until the transmission is

completely shifted into gear.
Do not race the engine.
Avoid spinning the wheels.

The rocking motion may free the

vehicle.
If it does not, you may need to

have the vehicle towed out.
