When the engine is cool, the cool-

ant level should be between the

MIN

and

MAX

marks on the cool-

ant reservoir. The level of coolant

rises as the engine warms and

drops back as the engine cools.

CAUTION

Adding only plain water or a

liquid other than the recom-

mended coolant can be

dangerous. The engine could

overheat but you would not get

the overheat warning. The

engine could catch on fire and

you or others could be burned.
Do not use plain water, alcohol

or a methanol based antifreeze

in the cooling system.
Use only the proper mixture of

demineralized water and the

specified antifreeze.

NOTICE

Do not substitute any liquids for

the proper coolant mixture.

Otherwise, premature corro-

sion may result and the engine

coolant will require change

sooner.

If the coolant level is low, add a

50/50 mixture of demineralized

water and a good quality phos-

phate antifreeze to bring the level

up to the proper mark.
In extremely cold weather, add a

mixture of 40 percent water and

60 percent antifreeze.

Never open the cap when the

engine and cooling system are

hot. Scalding fluid and steam

can escape and burn you.

CAUTION

Engine coolant can be hazard-

ous. If ingested, it can cause

illness and death. Keep out of

reach of children. Avoid repeat-

ed or prolonged contact with

skin. Wash hands after

handling.

It is not necessary to add coolant

more frequently than recom-

mended. If you add coolant more

often, this may be a sign that your

engine needs maintenance. See

your dealer for service.
See the Maintenance Schedule,

later in this section, to find out

when the coolant must be

replaced.

Automatic Transmission

Fluid (If equipped)

It is not necessary to regularly

change the transmission fluid in

your vehicle, however you may

have the fluid level checked by

your dealer or service center when

you have the oil changed.

NOTICE

Too much or too little fluid can

damage your transmission.

Make sure the transmission fluid is

at the proper level.
A decrease in the fluid level may

indicate a leak.
If there is a leak, have the vehicle

serviced as soon as possible.
