Predose Measurements
If the protocol being used has predose measurements enabled, then Figure 6-20 will appear.

Predose measurements permit the measurement and correction for previously administered
residual isotopes in the patient. The predose measurement must be made before
administering the thyroid uptake radiopharmaceutical to the patient. The predose
measurement will be stored and subtracted from subsequent uptake measurements. To omit
the predose measurement, select the
NO button.
Then the software will proceed directly to Figure 6-25, and request a capsule count
measurement. To proceed with the predose measurement, select the
YES button, and
Figure 6-21 will appear. Note that the predose measurement only corrects for the same
isotope as that administered for thyroid uptake. If a peak is found, it counts the same ROI
and decay corrects using the same half life as the isotope selected for the thyroid uptake
procedure.

The patient background count is generally measured using the patient’s thigh as an estimate
for the neck. The patient background is used to correct for circulating labeled iodine or
Tc99m which is not concentrated in the thyroid gland. To measure the patient background,
select the
YES button. You must make at least one patient background measurement. For
multiple repetition protocols, you may omit the second count by selecting NO . To exit from
the measurement process at any time without saving the measurement, select Cancel.
