Next, enter your Dosage Data. The isotope associated with the selected protocol will appear
automatically. The counting time and probe distance will appear from the Default Settings
window, Figure 6-14. These default settings may be changed for any patient. Enter the lot
number, calibration date, time, and activity of the isotope.
The calibration date, time and activity should be entered from the time that the dosage was
measured in your dose calibrator. You can also use the calibration activity, date, and time
from the radiopharmacy. The CAPTUS
®
2000 software will automatically decay correct from
the calibration time to the time when the dosage was actually administered to the patient.
For this reason, it is important to enter the calibration date and time, and the administered
date and time correctly.
A comment section is available for free text input of up to 8,000 characters. A small amount
of information entered into the comment section will appear on the front sheet of the Thyroid
Uptake Measurement Report printout. A large amount of comment information will appear as
a second page addendum to the printed report. The
INSERT COMMENTS FILE button
enables the user to copy a previously stored .txt file. A .txt file is created by using Notepad
from the Windows
®
accessory screen. Select Notepad by clicking on the Notepad Icon.
Type in the desired text or create a form, and save. When using Notepad, it is best to save
the .txt file under the directory c:\sys2000\spectra because the CAPTUS
®
2000 software
uses this default as the original directory when inserting a comment. Notepad automatically
saves files as .txt. This feature provides the user with the ability to create a standard
diagnosis report form and incorporate it into the thyroid uptake result report.
You may exit the Patient Data Screen at any time by selecting the
DONE button. Any
information which has been entered will be saved to the thyroid patient library. To exit the
screen without saving any information, choose the
CANCEL button.
A convenient testing method is to enter all of the demographic information concerning the
patients and the measured calibration activity as determined by your dose calibrator in the
patient library. Next, count each capsule for an initial capsule count to be stored in the
patient file. These tasks can be completed before any patients arrive at your facility. Then,
as each patient arrives, administer the capsule to the patient, and record the administered
time in the appropriate patient file. The CAPTUS

2000 software will automatically decay

the patient. This decreases the amount of time required while the patient is actually at the
department for thyroid uptakes.
EDITING PATIENT INFORMATION
If you wish to review or edit any information which has already been entered on a patient,
first select the desired patient from the Patient Directory drop down box on the main
THYROID UPTAKE screen, then choose the
EDIT button. Figure 6-15 will appear and
display all of the data previously saved for the selected patient. Note that the ID appears as
inactive text (generally blue for Windows Version 3.1 and gray for Windows 95), and cannot
be changed. The reason for this is that the ID is used as an identifier by the software so
results are always stored in the correct file. If the ID has been entered incorrectly, you must
