The patient blank count is an optional background measurement step. The patient blank is a
urine sample collected from the patient before the administration of the DICOPAC Test
capsules. It will be subtracted from the patient urine sample instead of the room background
count to yield net patient counts. This is an important measurement for a patient who has
previously received a radioactive isotope that may be excreted in the urine.
To proceed with the patient blank count, place the sample containing the patient blank
sample in the well counter and select the
Yes button. To eliminate the patient blank count,
select the No button. To cancel the procedure, select the Cancel button, and Figure 8-25
will appear. If Yes is selected, the data acquisition will proceed. After the count is
completed, Figure 8-24 will appear and require confirmation of the data.
Once the patient blank has either been counted and accepted or omitted from the counting
process, the software will proceed with the Co57 standard count, and Figure 8-27 will
appear.

To proceed with the Co57 standard count, place the Co57 standard sample in the well
counter and select the
OK button. To cancel the procedure, select the Cancel button, and
Figure 8-25 will appear. After the count is completed, Figure 8-24 will appear and require
confirmation of the data.
Once the standard has been counted and data accepted and saved, the next step in the
counting sequence is the measurement of the Co58 standard. Figure 8-28 will appear.
