When more than one capsule or dosage is given to any one patient, three methods of
measurement are available, as shown in Figure 6-6. When all capsules are counted at the
same time, choose Dose Measured is Dose Administered. By selecting Measure One and
Multiply by Numbered Administered, the software will count only one capsule, and then
multiply the count rate by the number or capsules administered to the patient. (Note: The
number of capsules administered is entered in the patient demographic screen when the
patient is added to the database.) The third option is to select Measure Each Capsule and
Add Activities. The software will prompt the user the count each of the capsules individually,
and add the activities together for a total capsule count. This total count is the count used for
thyroid uptake calculations.
Counting Repetitions, Dose Form, and Predose Measurements
Figure 6-7 shows additional parameters which must be defined as part of your counting
protocol including counting repetitions, dose form, and predose measurements.

Choose either 1 or 2 counting repetitions from the Counting Repetitions box. Each count
(capsule or patient) will be counted for the selected number of repetitions. The counts will be
averaged and the average count value will be used to calculate a thyroid uptake result. If
you choose 2 repetitions, you will be given the option to skip the second repetition after each
count. A screen will appear and ask, “Acquire Second Count? Yes. No. Cancel.” To
proceed with the second count, select
Yes . To skip the second count select No . The
counting procedure will then proceed to the next step in the counting sequence. Cancel will
