CHAPTER 5
QUALITY ASSURANCE
WARM UP
If your system will be used in a single location we recommend that you leave the computer
powered at all times. This will minimize warm up problems and will provide the lowest wear
and tear on the system. The MCA board is powered whenever the computer is turned on
and the CAPTUS
®
2000 software is running. If you exit the CAPTUS
®
2000 software, the
MCA board will remain powered until the computer is shut off or rebooted. If you are going to
leave the computer on, we suggest that at the end of the day you turn off the monitor and
printer. If you would prefer to turn off the entire system each evening, then allow at least 30
minutes for system warm up before performing any calibration procedures or making any
measurements.
There are several quality assurance tests which should be periodically performed on the
CAPTUS
®
2000 system to insure proper operation and calibration. These include energy
calibration, constancy, reproducibility (chi-squared test), and crystal resolution, all of which
the CAPTUS
®
2000 performs quickly and automatically using two dedicated reference
sources provided with the system. The calibration and constancy test should be performed
daily, while chi-squared and detector resolution tests should be performed at least quarterly.
For systems with two detectors, e.g. uptake probe and well counter, the calibration and test
procedures must be performed on both detectors. The software automatically saves the
calibration information for each detector in memory. Whenever the detector input is
changed, the software automatically resets the calibration parameters accordingly. This
insures proper operation of the system at all times.
Note that if you use a drilled probe, you should calibrate both the probe and well, even
though there is only one detector. Each software module uses the calibration parameters of
the particular detector that is associated with it. For example, the thyroid uptake program
uses the calibration parameters of the probe, and the wipe test program uses those of the
well.
DAILY TESTS AND CALIBRATION
In order to access the automatic testing and calibration module, choose the
AUTOCALIBRATE
button on the main menu screen. The autocalibration screen, as shown
in Figure 5-1, will appear. Select the correct detector (probe or well) to calibrate by placing
the indicator arrow over the detector button and clicking.
