ATX MIB Reference Guide
10-31
If the addrFlags field is returned with a value of zero, then the desired entry does
not exist.
To remove an entry completely, the NMS must perform the following steps:
Step 1. Set addrMAC with the desired MAC address. (Certain addresses will
not be removed by the ATX, i.e., those addresses with entry-other
already set within addrFlags.)
Step 2. Set addrOperation with the “delete” operation code. Although the ATX
will remove the entry, it may relearn and recreate the entry.
To define a new address or to modify the pre-defined information of an existing
address, the NMS must perform the following steps (the order of the steps is not
important, as long as addrOperation is set last).
Step 1. Set addrMAC with the desired MAC address. (Certain addresses will
not be modified by the ATX, i.e., those addresses with entry-other
already set within addrFlags.)
Step 2. Set addrFlags with either entry-static or entry-none, or entry-mesh. (For
entry-static and entry-none, either or both of entry-no-source and
entry-no-multi may be set. Use of entry-mesh is reserved for the future.)
The entry will be deleted (if there is no learned information) when the
ATX is told to set addrOperation to “update”, unless any of the
following is true: entry-static is set, entry-no-source is set,
entry-no-multi is set.
Step 3. If the entry is entry-static, then set addrPortMap and addrBridgeMap.
(Use of addrBridgeMap is reserved for the future.)
If the entry is entry-mesh, then additional fields might be added in the future.
Step 4. Set addrOperation with the “update” operation code.
To zero the packet count and character count statistics of an existing address, the
NMS must perform the following steps:
Step 1. Set addrMAC with the desired MAC address.
Step 2. Set addrOperation with the “zero-starts” operation code. This will cause
the ATX to update the Addresses Configuration Group fields about the
entry, before zeroing the statistics.
Step 3. Optionally, set any desired fields to NULL within the SetRequest PDU,
or, issue a GetRequest (s) for the desired fields.
