RIP Configuration Commands
The term
router
in this chapter refers to a router in a generic sense or an Ethernet switch running a
routing protocol.

Description
Use the
checkzero
command to enable the

field check for RIP-1 packets.
Use the
undo checkzero
command to disable the
must be zero
field check for RIP-1 packets.
By default, RIP-1 performs the
must be zero
field check.
According to the protocol (RFC 1058) specifications, some fields in RIP-1 packets must be zero and
these fields are called zero fields. You can use the
checkzero
command to enable/disable the
must be
zero
field check for RIP-1 packets. When the
must be zero
field check is enabled, if the
must be zero
field in an incoming RIP-1 packet is non-zero, the packet will be rejected.
