VLC1012 Overview
This section introduces the VLC1012 and its factory default settings.
17.1 Introduction
The VLC1012 (Very high bit rate DSL) Line Card is perfect for ISPs or large building applications seeking to
provide high bandwidth broadband services to subscribers while keeping costs low.
The VLC1012 provides VDSL service for 12 subscribers over existing telephone wiring, thus avoiding the cost
and hassle of installing new wiring.
The VLC1012 also simultaneously combines voice service on the same existing telephone wiring, thus saving
subscribers the cost of installing an extra phone line.
VDSL’s very high-speed transfer rates make it a very useful option for businesses.

VDSL Modes

10Base-S giving upstream rates from 1.56 Mbps to 18.75 Mbps and downstream rates of 4.17 Mbps to
16.67 Mbps.

ANSI Mode giving upstream rates from 1.56 Mbps to 6.25 Mbps and downstream rates of 4.17 Mbps to
16.67 Mbps.

ETSI Mode giving upstream rates from 1.56 Mbps to 6.25 Mbps and downstream rates of 4.17 Mbps to
12.50Mbps.
Bridging

IEEE 802.1D transparent bridging

VLAN
Port-based VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network)
IEEE 802.1Q Tagged VLAN
Your VLC1012 uses the IEEE 802.1Q Tagged VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network), which allows your device to
deliver tagged/untagged frames to and from its ports. The VLC1012 supports up to 4094 individual VLANs.
STP (Spanning Tree Protocol)
STP detects and breaks network loops and provides backup links between switches, bridges or routers. It allows a
device to interact with other STP-compliant devices in your network to ensure that only one path exists between
any two stations on the network.
