Proximity searches
Another way to define a search is by the nearness of words in the
search string. You can use the operators “near”, “sentence” or
“paragraph”. Here are several examples:

terms “32-bit” and “scanner”
occur close together. The closer
together they are, the higher the
document is scored.
32-bit near/2 scanner
the terms “32-bit” and “scanner”
must be within two words of each
other. Any number can be used in
this case.
32-bit order near
scanner
the term “32-bit” must precede
the term “scanner”.
32-bit sentence scanner
the terms “32-bit” and “scanner”
must be found in the same
sentence.
32-bit paragraph scanner
the terms “32-bit” and “scanner”
must be found in the same
paragraph.
Natural language searches
Click the Natural Language Searching checkbox on the
Advanced tab to enter a search string in plain words. For
example:
Things to know about scanners and printers
In this case, the Search Tool identifies relevant words, and
translates the string into a valid search query. Found documents
are rated by relevance.
