If you want to manage many files across a number of drive
locations, however, you may find it easier to create multiple
databases. For example, you might maintain the Pagis Search
Database as the database for your local hard drive. You could
then use the Search Database Manager to create other databases
that point to CD-ROMs, Jaz™ or Zip™ drives, or networked file
servers.
You can create a database to index virtually any file location you
can see from your Windows desktop or from Windows Explorer.
To search for indexed files, you select a database, then launch the
Search Tool, which is described in detail later in this chapter.
☞
Note that it is important to keep your databases regularly
updated. Then, as you add new files to your system, you can
search for them. You can update your databases manually or by
scheduling automatic updates through the Pagis Search Database
Manager.
Exploring the Pagis Search Database Manager
The Pagis Search Database Manager is a program that you run to
create, define, delete, schedule updates for, and otherwise
manage your search databases.
To launch the Pagis Search Database Manager, click the Search
Tool icon (shown to the left) on the Pagis ToolBar; click the
Database Menu, then select Manage Databases.
Or, you can go to the Windows Taskbar and select:
