Cylinder Liner
Measure the Bore
Tools:
1 Measuring gauge
94225
1 Inside micrometer

CAUTION
Injury Hazard: Hot parts can
cause injury to personnel.
Be careful when you do
work in areas where there
are hot parts.
Measure the wear of the cylinder liner (1,
Fig.1) after each piston removal. The cylinder
liner must be in the installation position.
Note: Record the values of the
measurements. These records are
important for an analysis of the
cylinder liner wear.
1) Remove the cylinder cover (refer to
).
2) Lock the lever of the cooling water valve
in the closed position. This makes sure
that no cooling water can go into the
cylinder liner.
3) Clean the area above the running
surface.
4) Put the gauge (94225) in position on the
top face of the cylinder liner (1) in line
with the longitudinal axis of the engine.
5) Make sure that the gauge (94225) is
correctly adjusted:
a) Apply Loctite No. 243 to the thread
of the setting screw (SS).
b) Adjust the setting screw (SS)
related to the thickness of the
installed compression shim.
Note: Fig. 1 shows the setting screw
(SS) in the position for a
compression shim thickness
equal to 0 mm.
c) Make sure that the top hole (A) is
above the ridge in the non-running
surface of the cylinder liner (1).
6) Read the values from when the bore
was measured before. You compare
these values with the new values.
