4. Top Bearing Shell −
Removal
WARNING
Injury Hazard: Before you
operate the turning gear,
make sure that no
personnel are near the
flywheel, or in the engine.
1) Operate the turning gear to move the
crank to the fuel side.
2) Attach the sling (94202F, Fig. 3 ) to the
connecting rod (1).
3) Attach the manual ratchet (H1) to the
sling (94202F).
4) Attach the two devices (94322) to the
top position in the column (3) with the
screws (4) and bolt (5).
5) Torque the screws (4) and bolt (5) to
150 Nm.
6) Operate the turning gear to move the
crank to the fuel side until the guide
shoes (2) touch the two devices (94322).
Use the special screws (6) to make sure
that the load is equal.
7) Operate the turning gear to move the
crank to the fuel side. At the same time,
operate the manual ratchet (H1) to keep
the clearances at (X). This will prevent
damage to the bearing shell.
8) Do an inspection of the bearing shell (8).
If necessary, remove the bearing shell
as follows:
a) Hold the bearing shell in position
with your hands.
b) Remove the two screws (7).
c) Remove the bearing shell (8).
5. Installation
1) If the bearing shell (8) was removed, do
step a ) to step e ):
a) Clean the seating surface of the
connecting rod (1) and the bearing
shell (8).
b) Apply a thin layer of oil to the
seating surface of the bearing shell.
c) Lift and hold the bearing shell (8) in
position in the connecting rod (1).
d) Install the two screws (7).
e) Apply clean oil to the running
surface of the bearing shell (8).
