10)Discharging
Discharging is the process of eliminating the negative charge remaining on the photoconductive
drum before the next charging process.
If the residual charge is not eliminated, the following phenomenon occurs:
Negative charge remaining on the photoconduc-
tive drum surface causes ungiven application of
the charge for the next printing.

The next print will have a double image. (The
preceding image appears.)

Solution:
The entire surface of the photoconductive drum
is illuminated with light by the discharge LED
array.
#
The photoconductive drum becomes electri-
cally conductive.
#
All of the negative charge remaining on the pho-
toconductive drum is conducted to the ground.
#
Preparation for the next printing is completed.
