b. Record the version number of the firmware, then select Done .

Determine the version number of the new firmware.
a.
On a computer connected to the Internet, go to www.appliedbiosystems.com .
b. Click Support , then Software Downloads .
c.
Select your instrument from the list, then click Updates & Patches .
d. Find the appropriate file. If the version number is:
• The same as the current version (from step 1
on page 68 ), you do not need to upgrade
the firmware.
• Different from the current version (from step 1
on page 68 ), follow the steps below to
download and upgrade the firmware.

Download the new firmware to a USB drive:
a. Insert the USB drive into the USB port on the computer.
b. Click the link in the Software column to download the file. Select the USB drive as the location
for the saved file.
c. Remove the USB drive from the computer when the download is complete.
To upgrade the instrument with the new firmware:
1. Follow the instructions in “Backing up run methods and other settings”
on page 19 to save your
run methods and settings from the instrument.
2. Insert the USB drive with the new firmware in the USB port on the front of the instrument.
3. Log in as a user with Administrator access.
4. In the
Main Menu screen, select Settings Menu .
5. In the Settings Menu screen, select Admin Menu .
6. In the Admin Menu screen, select Upgrade Firmware .
