These are the error conditions displayed in service mode and their possible
causes and solutions.

Solution
End of Paper
Ensure that the paper tray is correctly loaded.
Check the paper-out sensor and it flag. Also inspect its wiring
harness for kinks, nicks or opens. The paper out sensor connects
to J54 of the sensor board.
End of Transfer Roll
Ensure that the transfer roll is correctly loaded.
Inspect the upper and lower transfer roll sensors for dust or other
matter that could occlude the sensor lenses. Also inspect the
sensors wiring harnesses. The upper sensor array plugs into J52
of the sensor board. The lower sensor array plugs into J58 of the
sensor board.
Cover Open
Ensure that the top cover is fully closed. Inspect the cover-open
sensor to determine if it is actuated by the cover being closed.
Inspect the cover-open sensor for nicks, kinks or other damage.
The cover-open sensor plugs into J35 of the driver board.
Test the switch with an ohmmeter.
Head Cooling
The thermal head has overheated, wait and let it cool to see if
error condition goes away.
Ensure that both thermal head fans are correctly installed and
operate while the printer prints. The fans blow outward.
Check the thermal head voltage set at the power supply. Refer to
“Adjusting the thermal head voltage” on page 9-2.
Replace the print engine.
Head Heating
The thermal head has not reached its operating temperature, wait
and see if it heats up.
Check the thermal head voltage set at the power supply. Refer to
“Adjusting the thermal head voltage” on page 9-2.
Replace the print engine.
Paper Jam
Ensure that paper is properly loaded in the paper tray. Ensure that
the tray’s paper guides are set against the loaded media.
Ensure that the paper tray is not overfilled, no more than 60
sheets.
Clean the rollers inside the printer.
The printer should not be operated in an environment over 80%
humidity.
Transfer roll jam
Ensure that the transfer roll is correctly installed. Also ensure that
the transfer roll cassette is securely seated inside the printer.
Clean the platen roller and pinch roller.
Clean the upper and lower transfer roll sensor lenses.
