Common commands.
Common commands consist of a header to which an
asterisk (*) is prefixed and one or more parameters.
Examples:
*RST
RESET (resets the device)
*ESE 235
EVENT STATUS ENABLE (sets the bits of the Event Status Enable
Register)
*ESR?
EVENT STATUS QUERY (queries the contents of the Event Status
Register)
Device-specific commands.
Hierarchy:
Device-specific commands have a hierarchical structure (see Figure 5–1).
The various levels are represented by compound headers. Headers of the
highest level (root level) have one keyword only. This keyword stands for a
whole command system.
Example:
SYSTem
This keyword denotes the command system SYSTem.
For lower-level commands, the full path has to be specified, starting with the
highest level in the left-most position. The individual keywords are separated
by a colon (:).
Example:
SYSTem:COMMunicate:SERial:RECeive:BAUD 9600
This command is at the fifth level of the system SYSTem and sets the
baud rate to 9600.
