Move the cursor to [Yes] by pressing the up key to execute the format. (Example of QUICK
FROMAT.)

Press the ENTER key to start formatting. The following will be displayed while formatting.

When completing the format, the systems returns to the ready state (<READY> display).
HDD FORMAT OPTIONS
Options Description Estimate Time for Format
QUICK Fastest format, only write a delete mark. Approximately 20 seconds
NORMAL Format to check each sector status along
with writng a delete mark.
Approximately 40 minutes
PURGE Execute the QUICK format first and write
dummy data comply with the method
specified by US Department of Defense to
whole disks. Then delete the dummt data.
Approximately 2 hours
(Estimate time for format above is based on 145GB HDD capacity.)
About Fomat
While the format operation, the DS unit generates the repeated beep sounds. At the NORMAL or
PURGE option is selected, the progress of the format in % is displayed at the LCD.
Please note that the HDD may be damaged at the following scenario while the format operation;
1) The LCD displays a message of <FORMAT ERROR!>.
or
2) The DS genarets the different beep sounds (Lower beep sounds).
or
3) No progress shown on the % displays, or not to complete formatting when extremely
exceeding the estimate time.
In any of above cases, please exchange the HDD by following the procedures explained at “7.9
Exchange Internal Hard Disk Drive”.
Turn off the power by the power switch on the rear panel onece and reboot the system to
exchange the HDD in case of 2) or 3) above.
Format by Using Browser
Only the QUICK format option is supported at the format menu of the browser control.
