The FUP tape creation process takes approximately three minutes. A message notifies you when the
operation is complete. The library returns the FUP tape to the topmost I/E station slot. Remove the FUP
tape from the I/E station.
You can now use the newly created FUP tape to update the drive firmware on specified drives within the
library. See
Using a FUP Tape to Update Tape Drive Firmware
.
For more detailed, step-by-step instructions, see your library's online Help. To access the online Help
system, click the
Help
icon at the top right of the web client or operator panel user interface.
Erasing a FUP Tape
When the tape drive firmware version on a FUP tape is no longer needed, it can be erased and reused as
a data cartridge or as a FUP tape.
The entire process of erasing a FUP tape can be performed using the operator panel. If you choose to create
the tape using the web client, be aware that part of the process must be performed on the operator panel
and that you will need access to the physical library.
If the affected partition is online, it will be taken offline before the firmware update operation is performed,
and brought back online after it is completed. You will be asked to confirm that you want to take the partition
offline.
You can select only empty tape drives to perform this operation. If the tape drive you want to use contains
a tape cartridge, you will need to unload it first.
Erase a FUP tape using the following steps:
1
If you are using the operator panel, select
Tools > Drive Mgmt
. If you are using the web client, select
Tools
>
Drive Operations
.
A screen listing drive management operations appears.
2
Select the option to erase a firmware tape.
3
On the subsequent screens, perform the following actions:
a. If the library contains more than one drive interface type (SCSI or FC), select the type of drive
to use to erase the tape.
b. Select the tape drive that you want to use to erase the tape. You can select only empty tape
drives for this operation. If the tape drive you want to use contains a tape cartridge, you will
need to unload it first.
4
Go to the front of the library and insert the FUP tape you want to erase in the topmost I/E station slot. If
a cartridge is already inserted in the topmost I/E station slot, remove it.
5
Wait for the
Assign I/E
screen to appear on the local operator panel. The screen lists one or more
partitions and the
System
button.
6
On the
Assign I/E
screen, select
System
.
7
If you are using the operator panel to complete the process, proceed to step 8.
Note
If a
Failure
message appears, the operation did not complete successfully.
Follow instructions listed on the screen to resolve any issues that occurred
during the operation.
Note
Bold column headings in the table can be sorted. For example, selecting the
Location
column heading will sort by location coordinates.
