Configuring Your Library
When creating partitions manually, you need to provide the following information:
•
Emulation Type
— the type of library that the partition is emulating
•
Partition Name
— limited to a maximum of 12 lower-case alphanumeric characters and
underscores ( _ )
•
Media Barcode Format
— defaults to
Extended.
The available options are as follows:
•
Extended
•
Length must be from 5 to 16 characters.
•
Standard Six
•
Length must be either 6 or 8 characters.
•
Six Plus
•
Length must be 8 characters.
•
Number of Slots
— the number of storage slots allocated to the new partition
•
Drives
— the tape drive or drives assigned to the partition
You cannot create partitions manually from the operator panel. The path to open the appropriate screen is:
•
From the web client, select
Setup > Partitions.
Modifying Partitions
Using the web client, administrative users can modify partition settings any time after the partition is created.
The tape drive set as the control path for a particular partition cannot be deleted from that partition. The
check box associated with the control path is grayed out. For more information on setting the control path,
see
Modifying the Control Path
on page 43.
Also, the library does not support mixing FC and SCSI tape drives in one partition. Assign just one tape drive
type to a given partition.
The library automatically takes the partition offline before modifying it and places the partition back online
after it is modified.
When modifying a partition, you may need to provide the following information:
•
Emulation Type
— the type of library that the partition is emulating.
•
Partition Name
— limited to a maximum of 12 lower-case alphanumeric characters and
underscores ( _ ).
Note
Bold column headings in the table can be sorted. For example, selecting the
Location
column heading will sort by location coordinates.
Note
Before creating partitions, verify that all tape drives are unloaded and that all
cartridges are in their appropriate storage slot location. For information on
unloading tape drives, see
Unloading Tape Drives
on page 62
Note
Creating Partitions operations cannot be performed concurrently by multiple
administrative users logged in from different locations. You can access the
screen, but you cannot apply changes while another administrative user is
performing the same operation.
