Clutch Removal
16 - 6
To avoid damaging belts, DO NOT PRY
BELTS OVER PULLEYS.
PTO Clutch Removal
1. Park the tractor on a level surface.
2. Turn the ignition key switch to the OFF position,
remove the key, set the parking brake, and turn the
PTO switch off (PTO switch pushed down).
3. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable
(see Section 7, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SERVICE).
4. If desired, remove the tractor hood (see Section 14,
HOOD, DASH, & FOOT REST SERVICE).
NOTE: The PTO belts are a matched set. Mark the belts
before removing. They must be reinstalled in the same
pulley grooves and in the original direction of rotation.
5. To remove the two PTO belts (D, Figure 3 and 4),
use a spring puller or a small rope loop to remove the
idler arm spring (A, Figure 3 and 4) or release the
tension that is on the idler pulley (D, Figure 5).
6. Remove the belts (D, Figure 3 and 4), one at a time,
from the lower pulley (E), idler pulley (C), PTO clutch
pulley (B), and the fan (F, Figure 3) on gas engine
models.
7. Unplug the electric PTO clutch plug (D, Figure 6, 7,
and 8).
8. Remove the crankshaft bolt (A, Figure 6, 7, and 8),
lockwasher (B), and hex washer (C).
