10.3.4 autoalign
Align the tracking antenna based on the maximum signal strength received while tracking a satellite.

Description:
autoalign is used to align a polar satellite tracking antenna. The function uses the signal strength
obtained from the system’s receiver during satellite tracking in conjunction with the antenna’s test
azimuth alignment to find an azimuth adjustment that gives a maximum signal strength from the pass.
This azimuth adjustment is then stored in the azimuth.orient setting of the file $PASSDIR/antenna/
antenna.calib to be used in tracking following passes. The program begins with an azimuth adjustment
of -180.0 degrees, and steps through a series of angles to +180.0 degrees, searching for a maximum
signal. As the antenna alignment procedure converges on a solution, the monitoring program trackeye
full displays the alignment value in the align field and the
lock
indicator is shown in the frame sync
status field. The signal strength is also shown. When the autoalign program is finished, the pass
continues to be tracked by antenna using the value in the azimuth adjustment field.
Examples:
Perform initial autoalignment on the antenna associated with chain 4:
