8.4.9 Azimuth Pot [12574510], 6003L Only
The azimuth pot computes the position of the antenna in a circle of 0 to 360
º.

127mm (5") diagonal cutters
5/64" hex wrench for 8-32 set screw
Part Location:
The azimuth pot is located next to the azimuth drive motor on the canister assembly.
See drawing 70909013, page 49.

Procedure:
1. Turn off power to the antenna.
2. Starting at the azimuth pot, cut the tie-wraps from the azimuth pot cable up to the connector.
3. Note the wire colors of both connectors, then pull off the azimuth pot connector.
4. Remove the two 8-32 screws (item 26 of drawing 70909017, page 50) holding the pot bracket to the
motor train.
5. Unhook the az pot drive belt and remove the azimuth pot assembly.
6. Loosen the two set screws (8-32 x 1/4" - item 21 of drawing 70909017, page 50) and remove the az pot
sprocket (item 16 [12574588]) from the az pot.
7. Undo the two screws holding the az pot to its bracket and separate the old pot.
8. Place the new az pot on the bracket with the same wire orientation as the old pot and reattach to the
bracket.
9. This is a 10-turn pot. Mount the pot in the antenna train as follows:
a. Point the antenna towards "BOW" or north (away from the hatch).
b. Turn the pot clockwise (CW) until it stops.
c. Turn the pot counterclockwise (CCW) 5 turns, mount it on the bracket, and place the sprocket on
the pot with its belt attached.
10. Tighten only one set screw (item 26), keeping the set screw visible between the belt halves. The other
set screw remains loose.
11. Adjust the az pot belt tension (loosen, adjust tension, tighten the two screws (item 26) holding the az
pot bracket to the motor train).
