8.5.20 Alignment of the Antenna Using pass reception,
align
and
trackeye
The initial alignment of the tracking antenna is performed by the engineer who installs the TeraScan antenna.
The procedure outlined below is used to fine-tune the antenna alignment in azimuth so that a maximum signal
level can be found as soon as tracking begins.
Conditions for Alignment:
1.
The maximum elevation should be between 30 and 50 degrees.
2.
This alignment procedure must be run while the antenna is tracking a satellite.
Procedure:
10 minutes before the pass starts, enter the following commands (use the actual telemetry chain number in
place of 1):
1. Reset the antenna:
%
ac 1 reset
2. Wait until the antenna has initialized. Check the progress of
initialization
by reading the antenna
status:
%
ac 1 st
3. Enter:
%
trackeye 1
4. When the satellite is at least 10 degrees above the horizon and is not blocked by any local obstacles, enter
(in another window):
%
align 1
5. Adjustments (in degrees) to the azimuth position can be entered. The signal strength is reported on the
receiver and on the trackeye display.
6. Adjust the azimuth for a maximum signal strength.
7. When the receiver signal is maximized, enter:
exit
8. The message "Do you wish to save the correction in antenna.calib [yes/no]?" is displayed.
9. Enter:
yes
to save the correction.
