The major advantage to Echo Scan is that you can adjust and fine tune
scanning parameters at any time during the scanning process without
repeatedly pressing buttons to change direction and without ever needing
to unload and reload the document.
WARNING: Although this feature may used while scanning on-line, the
data produced will include all repeated areas, producing a large, useless
file. It is best to use this feature while off-line, recording the best
parameters for each document area, and then repeating the scan once on-
line.
Loading the Document into the Scanner
Documents are loaded into the CF Scanner face-down and, typically, with
one edge flush with the long black line located on the right side of the
scanner bed.
A diagram of the document guides and ruler on the CF Series/44 scanner
beds is shown in Figure 2-14.
A diagram of the document guides and ruler on the CF Series/36 scanner
bed is shown in Figure 2-15.
In both model types, the long black line on the right side of the scanner
bed delineates the beginning of the active scan area. The shorter parallel
line to its right indicates the far right side of the document entrance to the
scanner. The document must not cross over this line or it will get caught
in the internal structure of the document transport system. On the left side
of the scanner bed are similar markings indicating the maximum active
scan area and the far left side of the document entrance.
Care should be taken to enter the document squarely, so no skewing
occurs which could result in the document binding against one side or the
other of the opening of the scanner. The document must stay within the
two document width limit lines throughout the scanning process.
For the document to appear right-reading on the display monitor, feed the
document in with the top edge first and the left edge face-down and to the
right.
The amount of time it takes to scan a document is determined by its length
and the resolution. Neither the width of the document nor the mode
settings affect scan time. Various applications of the CF Scanner may
require specific loading procedures. For these situations, refer to the
documentation provided with the host scanning software.
