The Background Noise Filter is activated and the Contrast
Enhancement Filter is activated at its low setting. Use this setting
for scanning medium contrast, average quality documents that
have obvious background speckle and/or faded image areas-that is,
documents with a significant amount of gray areas or clean lines
on a stained or medium contrast background.

The Background Noise Filter is activated and the Contrast
Enhancement Filter is activated at its high setting. Use this setting
for scanning low contrast, poor quality documents that have very
low contrast, excessive background speckle, or very faded image
areas-that is, documents that are heavily stained, faded, or worn,
and for which it is hard to tell the image from its background.
Follow the instructions below to change the filter settings.
1. Press Filter once to advance to the next available filter setting.
2. Repeat Step 1 until the desired filter setting appears in the keypad
display.
NOTE: You can press the Filter key to switch the filter settings while the
scan is taking place.
The Contrast Enhancement Filter
The Contrast Enhancement filter enhances the contrast for image data in
both the binary and grayscale data formats. It has three different settings,
which are completely controlled by the Filter key. Those settings are as
follows:

Off
Off is the recommended setting for high contrast documents.
•
On at its low setting
The low setting is recommended for medium contrast documents.
•
On at its high setting
The high setting is for poor (low) contrast documents in which it is
difficult to distinguish the image from its background.
