The active filter area is defined by neighborhood pixel groups. (A pixel is
a single picture element.) These pixel groups, which may be considered
separately or in combination, are shown in Figure 2-7.
•
3x3 Filter Area
In the 3x3 neighborhood pixel group, the eight (8) pixels
surrounding the center pixel are considered when deciding whether
the center pixel should be removed or filled.
•
5x5 Filter Area
In the 5x5 neighborhood pixel group, the 12 pixels surrounding the
3x3 filter area are considered when deciding whether the center
pixel should be removed or filled.
•
7x7 Filter Area
In the 7x7 neighborhood pixel group, the 16 pixels surrounding the
5x5 filter area are considered when deciding whether the center
pixel should be removed or filled.
To change the Background Noise Filter's active pixel area, do the
following.
1. Make sure that the Background Noise Filter is turned on.
The Background Noise Filter is turned on when the Filter key setting is
any of the following: On, On+, or On++.
2. Press the letter key that represents the desired Filter Area.

Press A to select the 3x3 filter area.
•
5 x 5
Press B to select the 5x5 filter area.
•
7 x 7
Press C to select the 7x7 filter area.
•
7 x 7 enhanced
Press D to select the 7x7 enhanced filter areas.
The factory default setting has the 3x3 pixel neighborhood as the active
filter area.
