Welcome
Congratulations on the purchase of your new OmniStor® 4700S Series RAID Storage
System from Rackable Systems Inc. This
OmniStor series is a low cost-high capacity,
fault-tolerant advanced serial technology architecture RAID storage system. It’s unique 2U
design is optimized to fit in the compact space of today’s data centers rack environments
and fit comfortably as a deskside tower system.
The storage enclosure supports up to twelve hot pluggable 1-inch high Serial Advanced
Technology Architecture (SATA) disk drives in a 2U (3.47-inch) form factor. Component
redundancy is found in the hot pluggable cooling fan module which contains dual in-line fans
and will continue to provide adequate cooling should one fan fail. An N+1 power system is
available by adding the optional second independent power supply. Each power supply is a hot
swappable component that continues to operate without interruption to normal service with
the loss of one power supply.
Host connectivity is provided through dual independent 320 MB per second SCSI ports
(VHD/CI connectors). Likewise, scalable expansion is made available through dual
independent Ultra320 ports. RAID functionality is provided through the single onboard
Rackable
designed SCSI-SATA RAID Controller.
The design of the storage system implements Serial ATA II technology which provides a
highly reliable system architecture that supports command queuing and hot swappable SATA
disk drives. Serial ATA brings efficient I/O performance and boosts storage capacity over
conventional RAID storage systems.
