Operating Mode Configuration and Cabling
This section provides the instructions for cabling the specific operating mode topology
chosen for your storage solution.
Because the host side is a SCSI bus, SCSI IDs will need to be assigned to each RAID
Controller port or channel (CH 0 and CH 1). By default, the SCSI ID for each port is ID 4
and ID 5 respectively. The ID is set using the Set Controller Port ID setting in either the
VT-100 interface or StorView, refer to your software user guides.
For configurations that employ a single storage enclosure the default IDs will most likely
work for nearly all environments. Should the IDs need to be changed, refer to the VT-100
Software Guide for procedures to set the SCSI IDs.
In configurations that expand the storage solution, each storage enclosure beyond the first
enclosure will need to have its SCSI ID changed from the default setting to avoid SCSI ID
conflicts. To change the IDs of the storage solution enclosures after the hardware setup is
complete. Connect the OmniStor SATA Communication RS-232 cable to the Service port
on the next enclosure in the stack. Power on that enclosure and set its IDs using the
VT-100 menu function. Repeat the process until you have changed all additional enclosures
in the expansion stack.
Simplex Mode
The Simplex (stand-alone) operating mode provides a single enclosure with a single
SCSI-SATA RAID Controller solution. This solution is designed for single host and
multiple host environments to achieve a low cost fault-tolerant disk storage solution. The
Expansion Connection provides the cabling solution for expanding the number of
enclosures and drives using the daisy-chain method of connectivity.
Direct Attach Connection - Single Host (Single HBA)
1
Complete the storage system installation.
2
Connect the SCSI data cable(s).
