RAID Controller
The OmniStor 4700S Series RAID Storage System is designed with one SCSI-to-Serial
ATA RAID Controller.
The controller supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 10, and 50.
The SCSI-SATA RAID Controller is designed for low cost high capacity and high
performance applications. The controller provides simplex (stand-alone) operations for
existing and future SCSI solutions. The controller operates autonomously.
SCSI-SATA RAID Controller
The RAID Controller has four VHD/CI SCSI port connectors, two connectors for each
independent SCSI bus. This connector scheme allows for many different cabling options.
The core processor of the controller is an Intel XScale RISC processor running at 600
MHz. The processor has integrated instructions and data caches that allow for the most
frequent instructions to be executed without having to access external memory. Coupled
with our micro kernel, it processes commands and I/O at extremely high rates.
The controller’s disk drive interface provides independent 1.5 Gb/sec drive connections.
Each host port provides an Ultra320 MB/sec SCSI connections.
Access to the controller firmware and onboard configuration utilities is accomplished
through its RS-232 Service Port via a single port USB-type connector. Refer to “Port
Information” on page 83 for connector pin-out details and the
OmniStor SATA
Communication RS-232 cable. The cable is provided with the storage system.
