STEP 2: PROGRAM THE SPLIT POINT
0 LEFT U PPER LIMIT
This determines the highest note of the LOWER or Left-hand
section of the Master controller's keyboard. This is the "Split Point"
for the LOWER. Playing keys above this note will play the UPPER
section of the keyboard. VALUE range is from O to 1 27 which
represent M I D I note numbers. Look at the illustration on the facing
page. This will give you a visual idea of how the range of the
Oberheim MATRIX-1 2's and MATRIX-G's keyboards (MIDI Notes
36
through
96),
as just two examples, compare to that of a Grand
Piano and then how they compare to M I DI. The range of MIDI, as
you can see, is t'le widest of all - over 1 O octaves. Consult the
Owner's Manual of your Master controller to find out the range of tts
M I D I Notes.
Use the Keypad to select the M I DI Note Number that you want to
be the upper LI M IT of the LOWER keyboard.
I MPORTANT NOTE:
Be sure to check the Owner's Manual of
the Master controller to find out the M I D I Note Range of its
keyboard. If it has a five-octave range , it is more than likely that its
range is from M I DI Note #3G to M I DI Note #9G. Setting the LEFT
UPPER LIMIT to numbers
less than 36
will actually put the
LOWER patch off the keyboard as its limtt will be below the lowest
note of the Master's keyboard.
3 RIGHT LOWER LIMIT
This setting determines the lowest note of the UPPER or Right
hand section of the keyboard. This is the "Split Point" for the
UPPER. Playing keys below this note will play the LOWER section
of the keyboard. VALUE range is from O to 1 27 and operates the
same as "O LEFT UPPER LIMIT".
Use the Keypad to select the M I DI Note Number that you want to
be the lower LIMIT of the U PPER keyboard.
As wtth "O LEFT UPPER LIMIT", you must be careful in setting the
MIDI Note Number for the RIGHT LOWER LIMIT. Setting the it to
numbers higher than M I DI Note #9G may put the UPPER patch off
the keyboard as its limit will be above the highest note of the
Master controller's keyboard. Consult the Owner's Manual to be
sure.
Another consideration that you should keep in mind as you set
LIMITs is that for normal SPLIT operation, the M I DI Note Mumbers
that you select for the LOWER and UPPER LIMITs must be
numbers that next to each other. If, for example, you set the "O
LEFT UPPER LIM IT" to be GO and the "3 RIGHT LOWER LIMIT" to
be
64,
keys numbered G1 , G2 and G3 will not play because they
have not been assigned to either of the two keyboard parts. Try it.
