Using the MODE SELECT Buttons
In using t he MODE SELECT section, you may want to t hink of it as a "grid"
w here all t he possible controls are located. T he t hree buttons to t he rig ht of
t he grid titled PATCHES, SPLITS and MASTER select w hic h main Page of
functions you are using, indicated by t he adjacent LED. The top row of four
buttons (plain grey wit h an LED in t he corner) indicate w hic h VERTICAL
column of functions is being used. By matc hing up t he two LEDs, you can
find out w hat function t he MATRIX-GR is ready to perform.
As an example, let's select PATCH E DIT and take a look at some of t he
available controls.

Press t he blue PATCH button and select PATCH EDIT.
You may have to press t he button several times to get to it as t he
selector will "loop" among t he t hree Pages. W hen t he red lig ht is
on next to PATCH EDIT, t hat mode has been selected.
STEP 2. Press t he first grey button on t he top row. You are now in
t he PARAM ETER select mode in t he PATCH EDIT Page. Now, by
typing in a two-digit number on t he Keypad or using t he <
>
or
<< »buttons, you can pick any edit parameter in t he PATCH
EDIT Page. This is used in creating new sounds, c hanging existing
sounds or just finding out w hat settings were used to make up t he
patc hes t hat are in t here now. And t he Display will always s how you
w here you are.
Terminology
In explaining t he remaining functions of t he MATRIX-GR, we'll be using
terms and phrases t hat will help us get t hroug h t he discussion faster. In
using t he MODE SELECT section as a grid, we'll be able to move t hroug h
t he various procedures quickly by understanding a basic concept. W he n a
MODE has been selected from t he rig ht- hand column of t he available
modes in conjunction wit h one of t he four grey buttons along t he top row,
we say t hat a function has been ENTERED. This function is t he one in t he
column below t he lit grey button and across from t he MODE t hat you just
selected.
As an example, we will
"Enter PATCH EDIT I VALUE Mode".
First, you press t he blue PATCH ES button a few times until t he LED comes
on next to PATCH EDIT. Then, you press t he appropriate grey button
above VALU E in t he PATCH EDIT row. The KEYPAD can now be used to
c hange t he numerical value on t he display above t he grey button. If you
press PARAMETER, t he KEYPAD can t hen be used to c hange t he actual
parameter of t he patc h t hat you are working wit h. T he display, of course, will
always s how you w hat c hange has been made.
