Removing a PIM
Remove a PIM to replace it to restore back-up power to the shelf cage.
Prerequisites
• You must be familiar with “Safety considerations and best practices”
(page 53).
• PIMs are labeled top to bottom on a frame as 7RU, 7RL, 15 RU, and 15
RL. 7RU means rear upper PIM behind slot 7 of the shelf assembly.
• Replacing a PIM will temporarily affect the SCB (HSCX bus) and clock
distribution unless it has an installed and operating mate.
WARNING
Risk of injury or equipment damage
Power interface modules (PIMs) are not hot swappable.
The power breaker on the BIM that is connected to the
PIM must be switched off before unplugging the power
cables at the PIM. Wait 15 seconds for the capacitors in
the BIM to discharge before unplugging the PIM cable.
The power cable must be unplugged before the PIM can be
removed for replacement. If the mate PIM is present and
in service, it maintains power to the shelf so that service is
uninterrupted.

Verletzungsgefahr oder Geräteschäden
Die PIMs (Power Interface Modules) können nicht
während des Betriebs ausgetauscht werden. Bevor die
Netzkabel am PIM abgezogen werden, muß der
Trennschalter an dem BIM, das an das PIM angeschlossen
ist, ausgelöst werden. Warten Sie dann 15 Sekunden, bis
sich die Kondensatoren entladen haben, bevor Sie die
PIM-Kabel abziehen. Das Netzkabel muß abgezogen sein,
bevor das PIM zum Austausch ausgebaut wird. Wenn das
redundante PIM bestückt und in Betrieb ist, übernimmt
dieses die Stromversorgung des Baugruppenträgers, so
daß der Anlagendienst nicht unterbrochen wird.
